Laurence GudgeSaxophone  teacher

Laurence Gudge grew up in Suriname as the eldest of 3 boys in a musical family. From 18 months old, his mother noticed his musical abilities and was instrumental in instilling a musical curiosity in him. Singing (in harmony) at 18 months, playing piano from age 4, recorder at age 7, clarinet at age 8, and saxophone at age 17, Laurence has always continued that healthy curiosity into his professional career.

Laurence has his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Saxophone from the Conservatorium Van Suriname. He has his Associate of Arts in Music from the University of the Southern Caribbean. Laurence also has his grade 8 certification for Soprano Saxophone (classical) from The Associated Board Of The Royal School Of Music (ABRSM).

Laurence now regularly and professionally plays (from primary to secondary): soprano and alto saxophone, keyboard (accompanying), voice (background), bass guitar, and rudimentary percussion.

With over 15 years in the business, he has played with a host of performers including Grammy award winning gospel recording artist Donnie McClurkin, India Carney (Top 5 artist, “The Voice” – Season 8), Gospel Reggae artist Positive, Jazz recording artist Denise Jannah, and Dutch recording artist Kenny B.

With this vast amount of experience and over 15 years of teaching under his belt, Laurence Gudge knows what it takes to play at a high level as well as guide others to achieve the same.
